- Performance “Over”
For many people, the vaulting goat is associated with unpleasant memories. Across much of Europe, particulary from the mid-twentieth century into the early twenty-first, vaulting over the goat was a compulsory exercise in school pysical education and often graded. Today, however, we have the opportunity to form a different relationship with this object. One might simply sit on it, attemt a jump without fear of criticism or evaluation, or discover new ways of engaging with it. The focus shifts from duty to curiosity, from instruction to play. In this sense, thw work invites a rewriting of history, offering a chance to replace imposed experience with self-directed encounter.
